On the 11th of December, I held a debating competition for all of the senior drama club pupils (8 years and over).
During the term, students learnt the structure and rules of debating. Pupils were given a topic at the end of each class to prepare for the following week. Pupils had seven weeks learn about how to structure their speeches and what points to include, how to present to an audience and how to rebut the negating teams argument. By the end of the seven weeks they were ready to put their skills to the test.
Topics for the competition included:
- Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
- Good spelling is not important.
- Super heroes make good role models.
All of the pupils who participated in the competition did an excellent job. Thank you to parents who came along to watch the competition.
Congratulation goes to…
Intermediate winners: Logan Forsyth, Eliza England, Caitlin Goston
Senior winners: Maddi Prskawetz, Hayley Mackenzie and Sophie McGill-Smith.
